Henry Hilton Poindexter, 75, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, November 07, 2017, in Bossier City. He was born on Sept. 1, 1942, in San Augustine County, TX to the late Eli and Ora Stringer Poindexter. He attended school in Chireno and later at Panola College. He served his country in the U.S. Army for over 11 years, including the Berlin Crisis and Vietnam and he was honorably discharged. Hilton married Martha Adare on July 10, 1969, in El Paso. He worked in law enforcement for over 30 years at the Harris County Sheriff's Dept., Sabine Co. Sheriff's Dept., City of Pineland, and Panola County Sheriff's Dept. He was a member of the Gary Masonic Lodge. Hilton moved to Carthage in 1974, from Pineland and was a member of Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, E.J., Bill, and Lavon Poindexter; and sisters-in-law, Barbara, Sally, and Lizzie Poindexter.

Survivors include wife of 48 years, Martha Poindexter of Carthage; sons, Hilton W. Poindexter and wife Melissa of Carthage and Douglas M. Poindexter and wife Stacy of Cincinnati; daughter, Melissa Poindexter and Jimi Don Garrison of Carthage; twin brother, James Milton Poindexter of Pineland; sisters-in-law, Betty Poindexter of Lufkin and Nola Roberts of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kinsley Radcliff, Hunter Poindexter, Hannah Poindexter, Alley Yaste and husband Trevor, Cameron Anderson, Clayton Anderson, Chase Poindexter, and Collin Poindexter; great-grandson, Kace Henry Yaste; and special friend, Linda Parnell of Pineland. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Poindexter.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Six Mile Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Hunter Poindexter, Trevor Yaste, Cameron Anderson, Clayton Anderson, Mike Poindexter, and Jeff Jones. Honorary pallbearers are J.D. "Snoot" McGuire, Joseph Little, Kevin Jones, Jimi Don Garrison, and Buddy Holloway.
