Hazel Janice Pope, age 93, of Carthage, Texas, formerly of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Carthage.
Hazel was born on August 16, 1932, in Pecan Gap, Texas, to the late Wallace Elmer Carroll and Edna Mae Hancock Carroll. She graduated from Plano High School with the Class of 1949 and went on to attend Southern Methodist University.
On January 14, 1978, she married Robert Coleman Pope in Dallas, Texas. The couple shared 37 wonderful years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 6, 2015.
Hazel enjoyed a long and dedicated career in management with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where she worked for many years prior to her retirement. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage and was also active in the Gideons Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Eugene Carroll, and her daughter, Lisa Lee Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Vikki Ann Alley; along with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory.
A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church of Carthage, Mission Carthage, or Gideons International.
