Dr. Harry B. Hunt, Jr., 76, passed away on Tuesday night, January 19, 2021, in Longview, Texas. He was born on July 16, 1944, in Marshall, Texas to the late Harry Bass Hunt, Sr. and Annie Beverly Ross Hunt. Dr. Hunt graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1962, and attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1966. He married Patricia Lou Blackwell on January 23, 1965, in the Parlor at Central Baptist Church in Carthage. Dr. Hunt furthered his education at Southwestern Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master's Degree in 1968, and Doctorate in Theology in 1972. He finished out his education at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned a PhD in 1975. Dr. Hunt was a professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth until his retirement. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage. His parents and a brother, Elvin Webster Hunt preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat Hunt of Gilmer; son, Doug Hunt and wife Chanthy of Gilmer; daughter, Amy Cunha and husband Russ of Carthage; 3 grandchildren, Dawson Cunha and his fiancé Devan Hudman, Landrie Cunha, and Aili Hunt; 1 grandchild on the way, Jesse Hunt; sister-in-law, Virginia Hunt Heisler and husband Vern of Hindsville, AR; and nephew, Bob Hunt and wife Pam of Hindsville.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Restland Memorial Park with Chaplain Rick Webb officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed on the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Facebook page. Mr. Hunt will lie in state at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. on Friday.
