Obituary

A memorial service for Mrs. Harriet Goddard Eddy Smith, 90 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Central Baptist Church of Carthage with Dr. William Everett officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage prior to the services. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith passed away on Thursday morning, June 14, 2007 at her home in Carthage.

Harriet Goddard Eddy Smith was born on October 1, 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri to Walter Eddy and Winifred Goddard Purdy Eddy. She married Milton Ferrell Smith on March 31, 1945 in Shreveport. She worked as a Log Plotter for United Gas Company from 1939-1945. Mrs. Smith had lived in Carthage since 1955 moving from Shreveport. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Carthage. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Carmody.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 62 years, Milton Ferrell Smith of Carthage; one son, M. F. "Bubba" Smith, Jr. of DeRidder, Louisiana; one daughter, Susan Schieffer and husband Ray of Carthage; six grandchildren, Robin Schieffer Bales and husband Larry of Alton, Kansas, Scott Schieffer of Dallas, Trey Smith and wife Tara of Shreveport, Andy Smith and wife Kelly of Indianapolis, Bryan Smith of Baton Rouge, and Allison McKenzie of Baton Rouge; five great-grandchildren, Reagan Bales, Graham Bales, Payton Bales, Alyssa McEachern, and Mallory Smith; a nephew, Fred Carmody of Shreveport; a niece, Mary Elizabeth Happell of Houston; and special caregivers, Melissa Ogden, Shirley Wilson, and Sherry Wilson. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Smith.

Serving as pallbearers are Scott Schieffer, Trey Smith, Andy Smith, Bryan Smith, Larry Bales, and Mark Shoffner. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Sam Raley, W. C. Smith, M. D., and John K. Cain.
