Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Owens, age 87 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ron Bamburg officiating.. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Owens passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 in Denton.
Grace Wallace Owens was born on March 8, 1921 in Vivian, Louisiana to George Daniel and Annie Williamson Wallace. She graduated from high school in Vivian and earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education at Stephen F. Austin State University. She married W. B. "Bill" Owens in 1936. Mrs. Owens taught fifth and sixth grade for Carthage I.S.D., retiring after 35 years and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Sorority. She was the founder of the Panola County Texas A&M Mother's Club and was a member of the Church of Christ in Wildwood. Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Owens; two grandsons, Will Wiley and Tyron Owens; and her sister, Georgia Coffee.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her son, Danny Owens and wife Deborah of Mansfield, Texas; her daughter, Linda Wilson of Surfside Beach, Texas; five grandchildren, Spencer Owens, Nicole Owens, Garret Flynt, Wayland Wiley, and Slater Owens; one great-grandchild, Zakkery Wiley; and her dog, Lucy.
Serving as pallbearers are Spencer Owens, Garret Flynt, Wayland Wiley, Cecil Clark, Pete Commiato, and Gary McGuire.
