Funeral services for Mrs. Grace G. Duke, age 90 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Cocklin officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Duke passed away on Sunday night, December 30, 2007 in Carthage.

Grace Elspeth Godwin Duke was born on December 30, 1917 in Timpson, Texas to James Wilburn and Lillie Cecil McBrayer Godwin. She married Obie Austin Duke on September 16, 1933. Mrs. Duke owned and operated Duke's Garage with her husband from 1958 until 1980. She had lived in Carthage since 1933 moving from Timpson and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. She was preceded in death by her husband, Obie Austin Duke who passed away on September 24, 1985; one daughter, Doris Ann Welch; and two sons-in-law, Eddie Welch and Shorty Davidson.

Mrs. Duke is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Davidson of Carthage; four grandchildren, Janis Welch of Carthage, Keith Welch and wife Terri of Truth of Consequence, New Mexico, Cindy Faircloth and fiancé Tom Hickey of Carthage, and Michael Davidson and wife Georgeana of Carthage; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Duke.

Serving as pallbearers are David Daniel, Robert Davidson, Brandon Faircloth, Jerrod Davidson, Cody Davidson, and Jim Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers are James Riley and Mike Spano.
