Funeral services for Mr. Gordon L. Darnell, age 82 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William C. Everett and Dr. Charles Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery near Carthage under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Darnell passed away on Monday morning, July 24, 2006 at his residence in Carthage.

Gordon Louis Darnell was born on September 30, 1923 in Beaumont, Texas to Gordon Edgar and Julia Cooper Darnell. Mr. Darnell graduated from Carthage High School in 1940. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre and attained the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Darnell married Evelyn Harwood on May 1, 1947 in Carthage. He was the owner of Darnell Lumber Company in Carthage. He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 A.F. & A.M. and the Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler. Mr. Darnell had lived his lifetime in Carthage and was member of the Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lawrence Edwin "Bo" Darnell who died in 1973 and a grandson, Clint Poole who died in 1983.

Mr. Darnell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Darnell of Carthage; one son Drew Darnell and wife Donna of Carthage; one daughter, Karen Poole and husband Don of Carthage; two grandsons, Chad and Daryl Darnell of Dallas; and one granddaughter, Julie Poole Cameron and husband Ranick of Dallas.

Serving as pallbearers are Scotty Bates, Ranick Cameron, Chad Darnell, Daryl Darnell, Frank E. Smith, and Charlie Williamson.
