Obituary

Gloria Jean Haggard Hawthorn passed away on Tuesday night, Sept. 25, 2012, at her home in Longview. Mrs. Hawthorn was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Huntsville, Texas to Rex Daniel and Ida Mae "Pete" Jordan Haggard. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1950 and attended S.M.U. She married Neal Adolphus Hawthorn, Jr. on August 15, 1953. Mrs. Hawthorn was active in the community and was a member of the Shakespeare Club, the Garden Club, and the Junior League of Longview where she served as past-president. She was a member at the First United Methodist Church in Longview where she was an active volunteer. Mrs. Hawthorn was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Hawthorn is survived by her husband, Neal A. Hawthorn, Jr. of Longview; twin daughters, Beth Hawthorn of Longview and Barbara Hawthorn of Houston; one sister, Judy Biggerstaff and husband Roy, Jr. of Greer's Ferry, Ark; and two nieces, Toni Cameron of Longview and Lisa Harig of Mesa, AZ.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home, 1131 SH 149, Carthage, TX. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carthage followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Longview with Dr. Roy James officiating the services under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Hawthorn's loving caregivers, Karla Lacy, Madge Penny, Mary Hutson, Lacreasa Murphy, Kiska Caldwell, Shonda Gaut, and Lucy Burch, for the loving care they have shown. A special thank you to Mrs. Alice League for everything she has done for the Hawthorn Family.
