Glendell Pope Chadwick, 68, of Carthage, passed away on Tuesday night, July 11, 2017, in Shreveport. She was born on Sept. 24, 1948, in Panola County to the Cedell and Janice Johnson Pope. She graduated from Turner High School with the class of 1967, and earned an associate's degree from Panola College, where she recently was honored as the Alumnus of the Year in 2013. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University in Education. Over the years she also earned a Diagnostician and Supervisory Certification at the University of Texas at Tyler, plus additional certifications in the areas of Elementary Education, Physically Handicapped, and Mental Retardation. Glendell was in the education profession for 35 years and retired as an Educational Diagnostician from the Carthage Independent School District. During her tenure she served students at CISD and those attending the Beckville and Gary Independent School Districts. Glendell is also the owner of the Knowledge Nook Daycare which is located in Carthage, Texas. While serving in that position, she has been instrumental in helping children to be academically ready for public school for more than 20 years. Mrs. Chadwick served as the secretary for the Panola College Board of Trustees and was a founding member of the Ladies of Strength social organization. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as Vacation Bible School Director for many years. She was instrumental in fundraising efforts for the new Pine Grove Baptist Church. Glendell was a loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Chadwick of Carthage; mother, Janice Pope of Carthage; daughter, Dr. Jennifer T. Edwards and husband Dr. Anthony C. Edwards, Jr. of Granbury; siblings, Gloria Brooks and husband Henry of Carthage, Bert Ann Johns of Carthage, C.F. Pope and wife Dorothy of Carthage, Peggy Pope of Carthage, Linda Pope of Carthage, Kim Duck and husband Howard of Carthage; and granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Edwards.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. J.T. Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Holland's Quarter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Taylor Stapleton, Tavis Stapleton, Caleb Pope, Coby Lewis, Chad Lewis, Shun Pope, and Ashley Brooks.
Memorial donations may be made to the Glendell P. Chadwick Endowed Scholarship at Panola College, 1109 W. Panola, Carthage, TX 75633.
