A funeral service for Ms. Glenda Marie Jones, age 62, of Houston, TX, formerly of Carthage, TX, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at First Assembly of God in Christ near Carthage with Bishop Hubert Owens officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Holland's Quarters Cemetery near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time on Saturday at the church prior to the service. Ms. Jones will lie in state from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held for her Houston friends and family from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Northside Antioch Baptist Church in Houston. She passed away on Saturday afternoon, July 13, 2013, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Glenda Marie Jones was the fourth child born to the union of the late James and Arbie Lee Bryant-Jones on Aug. 25, 1950 in Houston. She became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Beckville, TX at an early age. She completed her formal education in Beckville, graduating with the class of 1968. After graduation, she attended Panola Jr. College where she earned her Associate's Degree. Glenda moved to Houston in 1976. She joined North Side Antioch Baptist Church under the spiritual guidance of Pastor Robert Staggers. She worked for the City of Houston in Human Resources and Special Operations Division until she retired. She was still presently working for the Astros as an usher. She acquired many friends and associates through the years. She is the mother of two sons, Brandon (Love) Jones and Anthony Jones-Leija and the grandmother of Bridney Jones and Brailon Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Arbie Bryant Jones; three siblings; and both her paternal and maternal grandparents. She is joining many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Brandon (Love) Jones and Anthony Jones-Leija; a sister, Linda Jones Small; two brothers, Calvin E. Jones and Alvin B. Jones (Bernice); one aunt, Lillie B. Steward (Leon); one uncle, Willie D. Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Alex Jones, Alvin Gerard Jones, Jamel Mitchell, Calvin Jones, Colby Small, and Zach Gates.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Brandon Jones, Donald Sparks, Anthony Jones-Leija, Thomas Jones, Calvin Jones, Lonnie Jimerson, Alvin Jones, Matthew Jones, III, James L. Jones, Gerard Jones, Alex Jones, and Calvin Jones, Jr.
