A funeral service for Mrs. Gladys Maxey, age 88, of Tatum, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. LeRoy Bowley officiating. Interment will follow at Tatum Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Maxey passed away on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013, at her home in Tatum.
Gladys May Huggins Maxey was born on May 28, 1924, in Baytown, TX to Ganie and Vassie Maud Smith Huggins. Mrs. Maxey graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX. She married Charles J. Maxey on Dec. 1, 1962, in Baytown and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1994. Mrs. Maxey worked for Tatum I.S.D. in the cafeteria for many years before her retirement. She moved to Tatum in 1971, from Seguin, TX and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Maxey was also preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Muriel Ward, Beatrice Poole, Roberta Mitchell, Hazel Matthews, and Dorothy Norris; and two brothers,Virgil Huggins and her twin, Ganie Ray Huggins.
Mrs. Maxey is survived by two sons, Ralph Dirst and wife Ladonna of Gary and Keith Dirst and wife Pat of Seguin; one daughter, Janet Breedlove and husband Charles of Tatum; one step-daughter, Mary Ann Stuckey and husband Bill of Alvin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her special friend, Dwight Hines and special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Maxey.
Serving as pallbearers are Max Brand, Danny Brand, Ray Mitchell, Billy Mitchell, Larry Huggins, and Billy Wallace.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Maxey's niece Sharon Brand, Evelyn Daniels, Eileen Lolley, Dr. Michael Morris, Life Care Nurses and aides, Cassie and Sandra, and Life Care Pastor, Freddie Bird.
