Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Marie LaGrone Brazzil, age 89, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Deadwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brazzil passed away on Wednesday evening, Feb. 1, 2012, in Longview.
Gladys Marie LaGrone Brazzil was born on May 21, 1922, in the Deadwood Community of Panola County, TX to Walter and Maggie Alexander LaGrone. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1940. Gladys married Charles Ray Brazzil on Feb. 21, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1981. She worked for many years at Panola Nursing Home, Robbie's Supermarket, Birdwell's, Terry Farris, and M&M Toggery. Mrs. Brazzil was the first female Justice of the Peace of Panola County. She loved gardening and fishing. Mrs. Brazzil lived all of her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Deadwood United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Charlcie Ishmael; her brother, Harvard LaGrone; two sisters, Lillian LaGrone and Earlene Johnson; a son-in-law, Jim Ishmael; and her three beloved cats, Muffin, Sweetie, and Baby Cat.
Mrs. Brazzil is survived by two daughters, Sherry Brazzil of Pensacola, FL and Pam Brazzil of Carthage; two grandchildren, Marty Ishmael and wife Susie of Bedford and Shane McMullen and wife Diane of San Angelo; three great-grandchildren, Tabitha Freeman-Patterson, Cameron Ishmael, and Cody McMullen; one sister-in-law, Margaret Odom of Tyler; two step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Kylie Palmer; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Riley Freeman and Hunter Patterson; one niece, Rhonda Pitts of Carthage; and nephews, Garth LaGrone and wife Martha of Deadwood, Terry Johnson and wife Melinda of Longview, and Dan Johnson of River Hill. Numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Brazzil.
Serving as pallbearers are Garth LaGrone, Terry Johnson, Jeff LaGrone, Richard Brazzil, Gary Hickey, Myron Prince, and Jamie Scott.
Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Dan Johnson.
