Gladney Velie Burns , 86, of Carthage, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, in Carthage. She was born on May 8, 1932, in Panola County, to the late Willaim Oswell and Lena Sessum Downing.  Mrs. Burns was a homemaker and spent her lifetime in Carthage. One of her hobbies that she enjoyed very much was working crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Burns, in 1998.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis Lee Burns and daughter, Katherine Burns.

Mrs. Burns is survived by her children, Danny Burns and wife Genevieve of Huntington, Betty Ruth Burns, Donnie Burns and wife Christine, Daniel (David) Burns, Angela Ellis all of Carthage, Darrell (Bo) Burns and wife Annie of Kerens, and Chantel Allen and husband Octavian of Carthage; sister, Lottie Strazyz of California; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The Burns family invites everyone to a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Burns at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Northside Christian Center, 108 E. Ash St., Carthage. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
