Girtha Lee Johnson, 94, of Carthage, TX, passed away on March 12, 2019, in Carthage. Girtha Lee Rayson Johnson was born on June 3, 1924, in Panola County, TX to the late Elma Rayson and Jessie Lee Stevenson Wallace. She married Eugene Johnson on Jan. 27, 1940, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2007. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Assembly Church of God. She was also preceded in death by grandsons, James Johnson, Jr., Derick Glasper, and Gregory Tyree; a daughter, Shirley Williams; and numerous siblings.

Survivors include five sons, R.C. Johnson and wife Jerlie of Lake of the Pines, Gene E. Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, James Johnson, Sr. of Carthage, Larry Johnson of Carthage, and Kenneth Johnson of Carthage; six daughters, Gertie M. Johnson of Tyler, Mary A. Anderson and husband Donny of Carthage, Annie F. Tyree and husband Dwight of Dayton, Ohio, Mary R. Glasper and husband Johnny of Carthage, and Ruby Phelps and husband James of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Freddie H. Wallace of Carthage; thirty-three grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at First Assembly Church of God with Bishop Hubert Owens and Rev. Leon Hicks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rocquemore Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Kevin Glasper, Jerry Johnson, Dwayne Johnson, Jermaine Johnson, Jessie Ware, Jr., and Gary E. Williams.

Honorary pallbearers are R. Johnson, James Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Gene E. Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Johnnie Glasper.
