Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Gulley Hill, age 91 of the River Hill Community, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Denham officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Hill died Sunday morning, August 6, 2006 in Tyler, Texas.

Mrs. Gertrude Gulley Hill was born in the Midyett community in Panola County, Texas on February 18, 1915. She was the daughter of Marvin and Maude Rosella LaGrone Gulley. Mrs. Hill had lived on River Hill since 1979, moving here from Port Arthur, Texas. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She graduated from Carthage public schools and Port Arthur College. While living in Port Arthur, she worked for the Methodist Temple and taught Sunday school. She was a former member of the Port Arthur Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 262. Mrs. Hill was a secretary and clerk for Texaco in Port Arthur, retiring in 1978. She married Joe Wheeler Hill on September 18, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 5, 1937, son, Robert Taylor Hill on October 9, 2003, two sisters, Ellen Grace Stanford and Sallie Feigh Alexander; four brothers, Marvin Travis Gulley, Lynas Wayne Gulley, William Bain "Bill" Gulley, and Kenneth Rushing Gulley.

Mrs. Hill is survived by one son, James "Jamie" Hill and wife Beth of Tyler; brother, Dixie Wayne Gulley and wife Ruth of DeBerry; daughter-in-law, Pat Hill of Carthage; nine grandchildren, Keith Hill of Windermere, Florida., Laura Kaiser of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jonathan Hill of Orlando, Florida, Alicen Czerniak of Jacksonville, Florida, Joseph, Rachel, and Rebekah Hill of Carthage, James Hill, Jr. of Keller, Texas, Melissa Linderman of Bossier City, Louisiana nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces , nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Serving as pallbearers are Josh Thompson, Dan Kaiser, Joe Hill, Matt Alexander, Keith Hill, and Travis Gulley. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Terry Gulley, Jerry Wayne Gulley, and Tommy Stanford.
