Funeral services for Mrs. Gerald Ruth Staten, age 60 of Renton, Washington, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church near Carthage with Rev. Bobby Williams officiating. Service is under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Staten passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008 in Renton.
Gerald Ruth Staten was born on April 14, 1948 in Carthage, Texas to Alton B. Staten, Sr. and Haru Butler Staten. Mrs. Staten graduated from Carthage High School and attended Panola College. She had lived in Renton for the past 40 years, moving there from Carthage. Mrs. Staten was best known for her musical abilities and was a assistant administrator for the Emergency Feeding Program of King County, Washington. Mrs. Staten was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rev. and Mrs. Alton B. Staten, Sr.; sister, Carrie B. Staten-Williams; brother, John Staten; and daughter, Kinshasa Staten.
Mrs. Staten is survived by one son, Vaneke Staten (Suling) of Federal Way, WA; two daughters, Mikko Staten and Cleopatra Mayberry of Renton, WA; three grandsons, Delshawn Staten of Renton, Jack Johnson Staten, and Benjamin Gregory Staten of Federal Way, WA; three sisters, Annie L. Peterson (Lavern, Sr.) of Renton, WA, Ora Lee Shepherd (Marcellus) of Banning, CA, and Pastor Patrinell "Pat" Wright (Rev. Benny) of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Alton B. Staten, Jr. and Reverend Gregory Staten (Kimberly) of Marshall, Texas, and special cousin, Lenorden Williams and wife Opal of Carthage. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and acquaintances also survive Mrs. Staten.
Serving as Pallbearers are Bobby Williams, Jeffery Williams,Patrick Williams, Carlton Williams, Billy Williams and Connie Greer.
