A memorial service with military honors for Mr. Gerald David King, 59, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the memorial service. Mr. King passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2015, in Shreveport.
Gerald David King was born on Aug. 31, 1955, in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1974 and attended Panola College. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1979, having served for 20 years before his retirement in October of 1999. He married Mariavia Canlas "Bernie" Gionson on Nov. 28, 1991, in the Phillipines. Mr. King loved photography, nature, animals, and rescuing dogs and cats. He moved to Carthage in 2000 after his discharge from the Navy. Mr. King was preceded in death by his brother, Lincoln James King.
Mr. King is survived by his parents, Lincoln Henry and Mary Nell King of Carthage; wife, Bernie King of Carthage; and brother, Eric King of Ft. Worth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Jones, Jim Young, Tonya Andrews, Roger Fermin, Carmen Fermin, Ann Foster, and Allen Millerman.
