Georgia Mae Jones Brown was born on December 27, 1942, in Beckville, Texas to Matthew, Jr. and Ever Ruth Hicks Jones. Ms. Brown was a native of Beckville and she later moved to Tyler in 1962, to attend Texas College. She graduated from Texas College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. She began her teaching career in Concord, Texas where she taught Pre-K for two years before moving to Mizer Kindergarten and later to Henderson Kindergarten where she taught for 35 years. Ms. Brown retired from Henderson Independent School District in 2004, after teaching in the Texas Public School system for 37 years. She was a member of Bethel C.M.E. Church in Beckville for many years and later moved her membership to Cole Hill C.M.E. Church. She served as finance secretary and she worked with the youth and young adult ministry. She later began attending True Vine Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. Ms. Brown enjoyed all things kids, the learning process, gardening and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal/paternal grandparents; one brother, Harold Jones; and two nephews, Tommy Tatum and Keith Rayson. Ms. Brown met Archie T. Brown and they married on May 24, 1968. To this union, one child was born.

Ms. Brown is survived by one daughter, Marie Brown, of Aubrey, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Thornton of Longview, Texas and Ferrene Tatum (Tommy) of Longview, Texas; one brother, Matthew Jones, III, of Tyler, Texas; four uncles, Bobby Hicks of Dallas, Texas, James Hicks of Beckville, Texas, Lindell Hicks of Longview, Texas and Earl Hicks of Longview, Texas; one aunt, Mary Hicks of Dallas, Texas; and five nieces, Patricia Thompson of Austin, Texas, Teresa Jones of Longview, Texas, Latonia Thornton of Longview, Texas, Michelle Jones of Longview, Texas and Sharita Bradley of Keller, Texas. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of cousins, other relatives, former students, friends and long-time friends, Claire Ramberg, Sheila Medford and LaVonda Ferguson.

Ms. Brown passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at her home in Tyler at the age of 79.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Nobles officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Ms. Brown will lie in state at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Joe Thompson, III, Alvin Jones, Vernon Joe Hicks, Michael Printers, Melvin Hunt, and Johnny Isaac.

Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Tatum, Jr., Keelan Jones, James Hicks, Bobby Hicks, Lindell Hicks, Earl Hicks, Joe Twine, and Aven Blaylock.
