George Edward West, 69, of Carthage, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 in Longview. He was born on Sept. 15, 1946, in Parris Island, South Carolina, to Leroy Arthur and Margie Davenport West. George served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and lived in Carthage for the past 30 years. George enjoyed reading and his favorite author was Louis L'Amour. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy West; son, Allen West; brother, Dewayne West; and grandson, Brian Hays.

Survivors include his mother, Margie West; daughter, Ashley Carr and husband Matt; brother, Charles West; sister, Debbie Hollimon and husband Al; and grandchildren, Ethan Gray, Cara Cooper, Piper Kangas, and Courtney Sims. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends also survive Mr. West.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to service. Interment with military honors will follow at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage.
