Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. George Thomas Allison III, age 61, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Paul Thomasson and Rev. Leah Hanks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Allison passed away on Thursday morning, June 18, 2009, at his home in Carthage.

George Thomas Allison III was born on October 29, 1947, in Shreveport, LA, to George Thomas Allison, Jr. and Wilma Brooks Allison. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1966 and attended Texas A& M University, graduating in December of 1970, with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. Mr. Allison studied law at SMU, graduating in June of 1974 with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He was a practicing attorney in Longview for many years. He married Reba Harris on May 16, 1986, at Pisgah U.M.C. Mr. Allison lived most of his life in Carthage and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Allison is survived by his wife, Reba Allison of Carthage; one son, George Thomas Allison IV of Carthage; one daughter, Dana Legler and husband Clarke of Kingwood; two sisters, Kay Thomas and husband Richard and Dianne Jones and husband Pat all of Carthage; three grandchildren, Will, Jack, and Kate Whitmer all of Kingwood; one uncle, Conrad Allison of Carthage; one aunt, Jimmie Brooks of Carthage; sister-in-law, Bue Harris of Dallas; brother-in-law, Buddy Harris and wife Judy of Carthage; and invaluable friends, Tommy D. Allison and Lorene Ransom. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Allison.

Serving as pallbearers are James Davis, Andy Durrett, Jimmy Pike, Cory Robinson, Brad Martin, and Scott Thomas.
