Obituary

Oscar Eugene Prince, Jr., 91, of Gary, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024, in Longview, Texas. He was born on May 7, 1933, in Marshall, Texas to the late Oscar Eugene Prince, Sr. and Francis Amelia Carpenter Prince. Gene served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years before being honorably discharged. He owned and operated a service station in Waskom, Texas for many years. While in business in Waskom, he served for many years on the Waskom I.S.D. Board of Trustees and was a member of the Lions Club. He later worked in Education and Maintenance at Karnack I.S.D. Gene moved to Monroe, Louisiana where he worked at the Christian Home. He loved all sports, fishing, and playing golf and enjoyed many years as an umpire and referee. In his later years, he worked as a funeral assistant at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Gene was a devoted member of the Central Baptist Church in Carthage where he served as a Deacon and he was a former member of Gideons International. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gene was preceded in death his wife, Faye Prince and a son, Ronney Prince.

He is survived by his twin sister, Francis Gifford of Idaho; daughters, Debra Downing and husband Billy of Gary and Karen Green and husband Gerald of Carthage; son, Daniel Prince of Gary; his sweetheart, June Arnold of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will take place at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe, Louisiana at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
