Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. G. W. Hurst, 83 of Tenaha, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Gradberg and Brother Willie Holley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Hurst passed away on Monday night June 11, 2007 in Tenaha.

George Washington Hurst was born on February 22, 1924 in Damon Mound, Texas to Robert E. Lee Hurst and Ada Thomas Dykes Hurst. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. Mr. Hurst married Laura Mae Callaway in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1959 and she preceded him in death on September 20, 1991. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, riding four wheelers, and being outdoors. Mr. Hurst moved to the area in 1980 from Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hurst was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward Hurst, Dennis Hurst, and Sid Hurst; and two sisters, Thelma Jennings and Clare Mae Hurst.

Mr. Hurst is survived by two sons, Timothy Wayne Hurst of Florida and Edward Lee Hurst and wife Angela of Tenaha; four daughters, Mary Clarissia Hurst of Nacogdoches, Ada Lynn Davis and husband Steven of Carthage, Kelly Elizabeth Graves and husband Douglas of Gary, and Shannon Gail Hurst of Beckville; one brother, Robert D. Hurst and wife Evelyn of Angleton; eleven grandsons; seven granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mr. Hurst's grandsons, Jonathon Hurst, Skyler Davis, Justin Graves, Brian Graves, Joshua Eastepp, Kyle Eastepp, Dylan Eastepp, Aaron Williams, Mark Hurst, Chris Hurst, and John Hurst.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and nurses at Briarcliff Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.
