Obituary

Graveside services for Mr. Fred Ross Pippen, age 91 of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008, at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Mr. Pippen passed away on Tuesday morning, November 25, 2008 in Bossier City, LA.

Fred Ross Pippen was born on August 15, 1917 in Carthage to Walter Jefferson and Jessie Bernice Ross Pippen. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1934 and during his senior year, he was selected to serve as a Page in the Texas State Legislature. He married Dorothy Corley Smith on November 3, 1940 in Jefferson, TX. Mr. Pippen served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-1946, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked and retired from Continental Oil Co. and later worked as a supervisor for Louisiana Pacific, retiring a second time in 1981. To all who knew him, Mr. Pippen was always an avid fan and supporter of Carthage High School athletics. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage. Mr. Pippen was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, who passed away on August 31, 2007, and his brother and sister-in-law, Billy Burt and Eula Pippen.

Mr. Pippen is survived by one daughter, Lynda Jane Timms and husband Michael D. Timms of Bossier City; three grandchildren, Shannon Timms Oliphint and husband Troy, Katye Timms Hamby and husband Ben, and Michael Timms, Jr. and wife Tiffany all of Bossier City; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Jane Oliphint, Ava Gwyneth Oliphint, Sadie Adeline Hamby, Madison Paige Timms, and Tanner Jacob Timms; and one great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by a niece, Walta Nell Pippen Cooke and husband John William Cooke, II of Carthage; a sister-in-law, Jimmie Larkin Smith of San Antonio; and special cousin, Saralyn Moore of Amarillo.

Serving as pallbearers are Michael Timms, Jr., Troy Oliphint, Ben Hamby, John William Cooke II, John William Cooke III, Dr. Wayne Kyle, and K. C. Kyle.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of nurses responsible for Mr. Pippen's care while at Garden Court Nursing Center and a special nurse and friend, Karla Breland (George).
