A funeral service for Mrs. Frances P. Nixon, 89, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Nixon passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 8, 2014, in Carthage.

Frances Parten Nixon was born on April 2, 1925, in Freeport, TX, to Cecil Ray and Beatrice Dorrill Parten. She graduated from Sweeny High School with the class of 1942. Frances married Ralph A. Nixon on April 11, 1945, in Sweeny, TX. Ralph and Frances lived in Alvin until moving to Carthage on Aug. 19, 1945, where Ralph went to work for Alamo Lumber Co. She worked at Central Baptist Church and for Bob Smith in his wholesale grocery business before working full time with Ralph in their various businesses over the years including cattle farming, laundromats, service stations, motels, and hardware stores. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Nena Gayle Nixon; brothers, Robert "Bo" Parten, Cecil Parten, and George Parten; and sisters, Margie Theis and Sarah Hanna.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Cheryl Nixon of Carthage; niece, Felicia Ruth "Bunny" Matura of Bay City; niece, Sharon Perry and her son Robert Perry of Carthage; nephew, Robert Crain of Monroe; grand niece, Bridget Brown of Longview; and a host of other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Catherine Austin, Jimmy Brooks, Helen Durrett, Lora Miller, and Adella Soape and her beloved caregivers, Faye Burnett, Betty Olliff, and Becky Hooper.

Honorary pallbearers include Mike Cherry, Jerry Hudson, Chris Bell, Keith Lovelady, Robbie Perry, Phillip Miller, Don Shull, Sammy Peace, and Jeff Reed.
