Obituary

Floyd Edward Brigdon, Sr., 87, of Carthage, passed away on Saturday morning, July 16, 2016, in Carthage. He was born on Jan. 2, 1929, in Rocky Ford, GA to the late John Hope and Lottie Lee Lucas Brigdon. MSG Floyd Edward Brigdon was a decorated Veteran of the Korean and Vietnamese Wars. At age 16, he worked at the Savannah Machine and Foundry Company, a ship- building firm, as a pipe-fitter's helper during the last year of World War II. After the war, he worked for the National Biscuit Company as a machine operator and the Virginia-Carolina Chemical Corporation as a tower inspector and apprentice lead burner. He joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in June 1948, and served in Korea, Germany, France, Libya, Turkey, Japan and Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1971, and moved to Carthage. He was employed as security supervisor at the Letourneau Plant in Longview until 1978, when he accepted a job as electrical meter reader with Southwestern Electric Company until retiring in 1993.

Mr. Brigdon was preceded in death by his three brothers, Zachary, John, and Earnest and two of his sisters, Hattie and Mary.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Brigdon of Carthage; son, Floyd Brigdon and wife Sarah of Terrell; sister, Inez Van Hall of Savannah, GA; several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren, Christina McCoy and husband Trenton, Isaac Huff, Joshua Huff, Brittany Seal and husband Dillon, and Andrew Huff; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden Brigdon and Jayla McCoy.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening July 19, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A private funeral will be held. Interment will follow in Connor Cemetery, Beckville.
