Obituary

Funeral services for Ms. Ever Ruth Hicks, age 84, of Tyler, formerly of Beckville, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Beckville under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Ms. Hicks passed away on Sunday afternoon, June 24, 2012, at her home in Tyler.

Ever Ruth Hicks was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Beckville, TX to Odis and Johnnie Boatman Hicks. Ms. Hicks was a native East Texan, living most of her life in Beckville and moving to Tyler in 1976. She attended Panola College School of Nursing where she received a Licensed Vocational Nurse Degree. Her employment included The University of Texas at Tyler, East Texas Medical Center, Mother Francis Hospital, and various East Texas nursing homes. She was a member of Bethel CME in Beckville for many years and later joined Cole Hill CME Church in Tyler, Texas under watch care. She served as Secretary for CME Federated Church Service and den mother of Boy Scouts. She loved spending time with her family, the holidays, and sewing. Ms. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ivory Hicks and Huey Hicks; one sister, Lillie Mae Bell; one son, Harold Jones; and one grandson, Keith Rayson.

Ms. Hicks is survived by one son, Matthew Jones of Longview, TX; three daughters, Georgia Jones Brown of Tyler, TX, Barbara Jones Thornton of Longview, TX and Ferrene Tatum and husband Tommy of Longview, TX; four brothers, Bobby Hicks of Dallas, TX, James Hicks and wife Helen of Beckville, TX, Lindell Hicks of Longview, TX, and Earl Hicks of Longview, TX; two sisters, Allene Rease of Stockton, CA and Gracie Atterberry of Fisher, WA; one sister-in-law, Mary Rose Hicks of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Calvin Jones, Alvin Jones, Vernon Joe Hicks, Johnny Isaac, Robert W. Adams, and John Scott, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Joe Thompson, III, Keelan Jones, Tommy Tatum, Jr., Kyrtrick Hicks, James Hicks, Bobby Hicks, Lindell Hicks, Earl Hicks, Cardavian Edwards, and John Scott, III.
