Evelyn Sharp, 87, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Sunday morning, Sept. 18, 2022, in Longview, TX. She was born on March 7, 1935, in Richland Parish, LA to the late Charlie and Mary Moreland Duchesne. In 1944, Evelyn, along with her parents and sister, moved to Carthage. She graduated as salutatorian from Carthage High School with the class of 1953, where she served as band majorette and drum major. Evelyn attended Panola College on a full scholarship. She married James Alcon Sharp on Oct. 30, 1953, in Carthage. They were married 56 years before he preceded her in death on June 5, 2009. She worked at the First State Bank in Carthage from 1960-1965, at which time, James was transferred to McAllen, TX. While in McAllen, Evelyn attended University of Texas Pan American where she earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education in 1969, a Master's Degree in Education in 1980, and a Supervision Certificate in 1981. Mrs. Sharp taught elementary school from 1969-1980 and from 1980-1984, worked as a supervisor at McAllen I.S.D. She also taught undergraduate and graduate courses part-time at UT Pan American. In 1984, the Sharp's returned to Carthage where Evelyn taught at Libby Elementary until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Sharp served as an officer and board member of the Panola College Alumni Association for several years and was honored to be nominated as Alumnus of the Year in 2006. In 1991, she was appointed to the Panola College Board of Trustees where she served until 2017. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Wildwood. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Murlene Dobson.

She is survived by sons, J. Ty Sharp and wife Vivian and Kent Sharp and wife LeAnna; grandchildren, Mindy Ford, Zachary Sharp, Mackenzie Cheman and husband Justin, and Kristina Wood and husband Brien; great-grandchildren, Colby Carpenter, Callie Sharp, Kinsley Ford, Kellen Wood, Emry Cheman, Everly Cheman, and Elyza Cheman. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Bankhead officiating. Interment will follow in Langley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Justin Cheman, Larry Ford, Lan Milton, San Milton, Gerry Robinson, Greg Robinson, John Sharp, Sidney Sharp, Zachary Sharp, and Brien Wood.

Honorary pallbearers are Pete Commiato, Mark Foster, Gary McGuire, and Calvin Turner.
