Evelyn Darnell, 97, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2021, in Carthage. Mary Evelyn Harwood was born on Dec. 24, 1923, in Daingerfield, TX to the late Commodore Porter and Pearl Jane Boling Harwood. She attended cosmetology school and in March of 1946, she moved to Carthage from San Augustine and owned and operated My Lady Beauty Salon in the back of Cox's Jewelry. She married Gordon Louis Darnell on May 1, 1947, in Carthage and they were the last couple to marry in the old Central Baptist Church parsonage. Mr. and Mrs. Darnell were life-long members of Central Baptist Church. Mr. Darnell preceded her in death on July 24, 2006. She was a former member of the Carthage Book Club. Mrs. Darnell was also preceded in death by a grandson, Clint Poole; her son, Drew Darnell; and 9 siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Poole and husband Don; daughter-in-law, Donna Darnell, all of Carthage; grandsons, Chad Darnell and wife Lisa of Carthage and Daryl Darnell and wife Sarah of Celina; granddaughter, Julie Poole Cameron and husband Ranick of Wylie; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Marinn, Harper, and Gavin Cameron and Dylan, Evie, and Remington Darnell.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Monty Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Chad Darnell, Daryl Darnell, Ranick Cameron, Raymond Schieffer, Charlie Williamson, Kevin Smith, and Eric Lawrence.  Serving as honorary pallbearer is Bill O'Neal.
