Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Rita Johnson Haynes, age 81, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. William Everett and Rev. Steve Jackson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Haynes passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2011, at Willis-Knighton Piermont Hospital in Shreveport, LA.
Eva Rita Johnson Haynes was born on Apr. 17, 1930, in Shreveport, LA to the marriage of Eva Mae Wright and Rex Johnson, Sr. Living twelve years in Gibsland, LA, Mrs. Haynes moved to the La Tex Community which is now known as Panola, and worked in her father's store, Rex Café; where people lined up to eat. After graduating from Greenwood High School, Mrs. Haynes attended and graduated from Draughn Business School in Shreveport and she also attended real estate school. Eva worked as a secretary for J&S Music in downtown Shreveport for many years. Eva met and married the love of her life, Edwin Dick Haynes, and they married on July 7, 1949. Mrs. Haynes was a loving wife, wonderful mother and homemaker, and a great friend to everyone who knew her. She canned, cooked, and served. Mrs. Haynes was awarded Homemaker of the Year for Harrison County in 1967. She served as the Panola County Blood Chairman from 1989-1996, and was awarded "Best Blood Drive" for her efforts and service. Eva also was personnel director and manager for Rite Care Poultry for many years. Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Rex Johnson, Jr.; and one grandson, Clint Allen Hammons.
Mrs. Haynes is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Edwin Dick Haynes of Carthage; one son, Clarence Doyle Haynes of Lufkin; two daughters, Rita Frances Morrow of Kilgore and Rhonda Sue Hammons and husband Dr. Bill Hammons of Carthage; adopted daughters, Betty Twomey and husband Rob and Faith Toole and husband Allen; one brother, Joe Rex Johnson and wife Pat of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Betty Cherry of Carthage; grandchildren, Kristi Morrow, Dillon Morrow and wife Denise, Rachel Hammons, J.D. Twomey and wife Bridget, and Sarah Beth "Khaki Jo" Twomey; and great-grandchildren, Justin Morrow, Sean Clayton, Hailey Morrow, and Cameron Morrow. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Haynes.
Serving as pallbearers are Brian Monroe, J.D. Twomey, Randy Stone, Dillon Morrow, Justin Morrow, Mike Cherry, and David Johnson.
