Eugene Thomas Barefield, 93, of Lake Murvaul, Panola County, TX passed away on Friday night, Aug. 26, 2022, at his Lake Murvaul home. He was born on Aug. 30, 1928, in Wewahitchka, FL to the late Woodie David and Willie Grace Hinsey Barefield. Mr. Barefield served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He married Nelwyn Joy Middlebrook on March 13, 1956, in Carthage. Mr. Barefield worked as a boat captain in the Gulf of Mexico in the oil and gas industry until his retirment. He loved fishing, cooking, entertaining, and R.V. camping. He was always fixing, repairing or building something. Mr. Barefield was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton, TX. He was also preceded in death by a son, Eugene Timothy Barefield.

He is survived by his wife, Nelwyn Barefield; sons, Mike Barefield and wife Pamela and Tommy Barefield; daughter, Teresa Nell Gilland and husband Harold; brother, Woodie Barefield; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are by Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
