Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Savage James, age 84 of Timpson, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Nix officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. James passed away on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2011, in Nacogdoches.

Etta Arminious Ryland Savage James was born on March 8, 1927, in Jacoby, LA to Ed and Genie Ryland. She was number 26 out of 27 children, and was the granddaughter of Louisiana's last confederate veteran. Mrs. James grew up and attended high school in LA. Throughout her younger years she was a successful business owner and entrepreneur. Mrs. James was known as a very classy lady and devoted Christian. She stressed to her daughters the importance of not only being a woman, but a "lady". Mrs. James loved beautiful jewelry and fried chicken. She became a very caring and lovely homemaker, and in her spare time enjoyed singing in gospel groups, in which she played the washtub and spoons. She also enjoyed going to the casinos. Mrs. James is preceded in death by her parents; 25 siblings; and her first husband, Otis Lee Savage.

Mrs. James is survived by her husband Frank James; four daughters, Wanda Hagan (Jimmy) of Mabank, Dot Hardin (Glenn) of Rockwall, Tammie Jacks (Dale) of Jasper and Naomi Oney (Wayne) of Gilmer; three sons, Larry Savage (David) of Bettie, TX, Don Savage of Tyler, Patrick Savage (Tina) of Texarkana, TX; one sister, Catherine McCormick (Mack) of West Monroe, LA; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. James.

Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Jacks, Karl Oney, Jr., Jonathon Daniel, Remington Savage, Soloman Savage and Matthew Jacks.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer is David Netterville.
