Obituary
Funeral Services for Mrs. Essie Allums Smiley, age 94 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday,September 22, 2007 at the Jimerson–Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Betty Wills and Rev.Scott Stewart officiating, with interment to follow in Rehobeth Cemetery near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Smiley passed away on Thursday morning September 20, 2007 in Carthage.
Essie Allums Smiley was born September 19,1913 in Panola County Texas to William " Bill " Stephen Allums and Melinda Jane Chamness Allums. She was a membership secretary of Rehobeth UMC for 20 years, telephone operator in Shreveport, Louisana, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Mary Lizzie Circle, the Lou Ray Sunday School Class, volunteer for the Red Cross for over 50 years, and several years with Parent Teacher Association. She was preceded in death by parents, William and Melinda Jane Allums, two husbands James C. Mullins Sr. and Ruel Smiley, son Jimmy Mullins, brother, Preston Allums, sisters Lois Wroten, Corine Lee, Ruby Worthington, nephew Dick Wroten, killed in WW II.
She is survived by nephews, Glenn Allums and wife, Beth of Carthage, Texas, Wayne Allums and wife Brenda of Carthage,Texas. Granddaughter, Angie Appleton and husband Mike of Euless, Texas,great grandchildren Amber and Cody Appleton, nieces Ruby Grimes of Carthage, Texas, Dolores Harris of De Soto,Texas, June Worthington O'Brien and husband Ray of Irving Texas, Billie Ray Erlings and husband Kurt of Ashland, Oregon, great nieces Shannon Henderson and husband Robert of Kilgore, Texas, Christi Nichols and husband Tommy of Carthage, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Steve Grimes, Phil Grimes, Jerel Worthington, Robert Earl Smith, Hal Whitaker, Danny Buck Davidson.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Max Bauer, Gene Whitaker, Emory Ross.
