Bruce McCumber

Bruce McCumber, age 65, of Gary, Texas, passed way Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Longview. Ernest Bruce McCumber was born on September 5, 1961, in Robstown, Texas, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Ida Myrtlene Hoppe McCumber. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Southside Baptist Church in Carthage. Bruce married Karen Kay Smith on May 2, 1992, in Carthage. He worked as a millwright for Louisiana Pacific for many years. Bruce enjoyed fishing, having a good time with his family, which often included grilling some good barbecue, and he enjoyed his job at Louisiana Pacific. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Harry Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Karen; children; Mickel McCumber (Christina), Bryan McCumber (Melissa Masters), Chad Smith (Allison Charles), Cody Thornburgh (Josh), Samantha McCumber, Kaydence Smith, Serenity Smith, and Makenzie Smith; daughter-in-law, Melissa Mullins; grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Mechelle, Tuff, Brylee, Keyaira, Zy’Leigh, Kamdyn, Cheanne, Arianna, Wyatt, Jaxson, Lia, Kimber, Hayven, and Braylen; great-grandchildren, River, Maggie, Oliver, Spencer, and Mavis (on the way); sister, Dolly Hodge and family; mother-in-law, Mary Smith; and aunt, Betty Gragg (Roger).

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Gary Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
