Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Max Bauer, age 79, of Carthage, TX will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Paul Thomasson and Rev. Leah Hanks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Bauer passed away on Friday morning, June 4, 2010, in Carthage.

Ernest Max Bauer was born on Sept. 24, 1930, in Texarkana, Texas to Ernest Maxmillian and Ruby Frances Keller Bauer. He graduated from Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas with the class of 1948. He attended Texarkana College and the University of Arkansas where he earned a Bachelor of Business in 1952. Mr. Bauer served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He married Nellie Joyce Morgan on Dec. 28, 1956, in Shongaloo, Louisiana. After his discharge from the service, he moved to Haynesville, Louisiana and later Vivian, Louisiana where he worked for Bauer Hardware and Furniture. In 1963, he purchased Adams Furniture in Carthage, establishing Bauer Furniture, a business he owned and operated until his death. He was a member of the Carthage Lions Club, a director of the former First National Bank in Carthage, and he served on the Carthage City Council for many years. Mr. Bauer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage where he was also a member of the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bauer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nell Bauer of Carthage; three children, Susan Soape and husband Jackie of Carthage, Mark Bauer and wife Tari of Colleyville, and Paul Bauer and wife Sandra of Carthage; two sisters, Linda Davis and husband Kenneth of Texarkana, Arkansas and Ann Armstrong and husband John of Long Beach, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Hunter Soape and wife Ashley, Jack Soape, Tyler Bauer, Mandie Bauer, Olivia Bauer, and Tyler Ryan; and a special caregiver, Melvin Tatum.

Serving as pallbearers are Hunter Soape, Jack Soape, Tyler Bauer, Brad Davis, Christopher Armstrong, Keith Davis, and Jonathan Jones.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class.
