Eric Carnell Carter, age 67, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Saturday morning, September 13, 2025, in Longview, Texas. He was born on December 24, 1957, in Galveston, Texas to Johnnie B. Carter Sr. and Erma Lee Tatum Carter. He is preceded in death by both of his dear parents and a sister, Edith Jane Carter Neason.

Eric graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1976. He attended Kilgore Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned his bachelor's degree. Eric played basketball throughout his college years. He was known for his three pointers and people would come from far away to watch him play. In 2018, Eric was inducted into the Carthage Bulldogs Athletic Hall of Honor. He worked for 17 years at Sweeneys Jewelers in Houston, Texas. Eric would later work at Carthage High School as well as Logansport High School as a Basketball Coach. Even though it had been many years since he coached basketball, many people in the community knew him as "Coach" and lovingly call him Coach Carter.

He was baptized on April 20, 2013, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the Denton Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Denton, Texas. Eric was faithful in his beliefs and truly believed that soon the promise will be fulfilled where no resident will say..."I am sick." - Isaiah 33:24.

His loves were spending time fishing, playing dominos, but most importantly his family. The joy of his life was his beloved wife of 38 years, Nikki and his son, Eric Nicholas. Something he would look forward to every year was the annual "CarterFest Crawfish Boil", a family reunion where all the family gathers together. Eric was loved dearly and will always be remembered.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nikki; their son, Eric Nicholas and wife Kaitlyn; his brothers, Johnnie B. Carter Jr. and wife Carmen and Edgar Leon Carter and wife Debra; his sister, Tammie Rena Carter McLin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, loving relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dwayne McClelland officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
