Emma Doris Shires Holt, 67, of Henderson, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 5, 2016, at her home in Henderson. She was born on July 26, 1949, in Carthage, to the late J.W. and Mattie Bell Godwin Shires. She owned and operated the Swinging Bridge Childcare in Pine Tree for many years. Emma earned her LVN degree from Kilgore College. She worked at Henderson Memorial Hospital where she was instrumental in establishing the Family Health Clinic. Emma loved the outdoors, spending time with family at the deer camp, hunting and fishing. For many years, she participated and served on the committee for Relay for Life. She married WR Holt on April 7, 2001, in Henderson and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2016. Mrs. Holt was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Frank Shires.
Survivors include her children, Angy Tarbutton and husband David of Henderson, Shannon Whitlow and husband Heith of Henderson, Chris Sullivan and wife Sabrina of Troup, April Andreew and husband Michael of Germany, and Amanda Friebel and husband Peter of Germany; siblings, Patricia Loper of Henderson, Melvin Shires and wife Mara Lou of Mt. Enterprise, James Shires and wife Emma of Gary, and Winnie Jean Hopkins and husband Ronnie of Longview; grandchildren, Heather, Cody, Shyan, Ashley, Hailey, Cameron, Taylor, Brian, Celestine, Ella, and Skylar; and great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Gracie, Alison, Natalie, Jocelyn, and Westley.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Blizzard officiating. Interment will follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Cody Tarbutton, Cameron Sullivan, Brian Tarbutton, Jr., Ben Shires, Jordan Tarbutton, and Aaron Tarbutton.
