A memorial service for Mr. Edward Melvin Smith, age 76, of Beckville, TX, will be held at a later date to be announced by the family. His cremains will be interred at Harmony Hill Cemetery near Tatum. Mr. Smith passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 in Carthage. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.


Edward Melvin Smith was born on Jun. 4, 1936, in Beckville to Bryant and Lilly Margaret Davis Smith. He lived his life in east Texas where he attended Beckville and Tatum High Schools. Mr. Smith was a master brick layer by trade and enjoyed a good game of dominoes. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, W.J. Smith; one sister, Margie Mae Jones; and one brother-in-law, R.S. Jones.


Melvin is survived by one son, Melvin Gene Smith, of Cushing, TX; one brother, Hubert and wife Mary Smith of Tatum, TX; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Smith of Laneville, TX. A host of nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Smith.
