Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie McKee, age 90 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park in Henderson. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. McKee passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007 in Carthage.

Edith Josephine Ryser McKee, known to most as "Billie", was born on November 18, 1917 in rural Galatea, Colorado to Jacob F. and Bertha Faye Eaton Ryser. Mrs. McKee graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in Medicine Lodge, Kansas and attended Fort Hays State University and Wichita State University in Kansas. Mrs. McKee served her country during WWII by training other pilots in the Women's Civilian Air Corps. She married Marlon Branham McKee and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1957. Mrs. McKee worked as an educational administrator and was employed with Carthage I.S.D for eleven years and with Panola College for seventeen years. She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association and was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Mrs. McKee had lived in Carthage since 1946, moving at the end of WWII. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage where she was also a member of the Carter Circle, served on the church's administrative board, and was the church Sunday school secretary for over 40 years. Mrs. McKee was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Blanche Hemmer Jennings and Ada Jasmine Ryser.

Mrs. McKee is survived by two daughters, Mary Kathleen McKee of Austin and Dr. M. Karen Newell Rogers and husband Jeff of Colorado Springs; one brother, Jacob F. "Bud" Ryser; six grandchildren, Cathy Del Rio, Rachel Newell Smith, Bernardo Del Rio, Dr. Evan Newell, Ana Karen Del Rio, and Susannah Kathleen Rogers; and two great-grandchildren, Vinnie and Marcus Smith.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Rogers, Bernie Del Rio, Evan Newell, Lee Allen, Rollie Sidla, and Don Ingram. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Bud Ryser.
