Millard Edwin "Ed" Riding, 82, passed away April 24, 2019, at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home in Ogden, UT. He was born February 18, 1937, in Panguitch, Utah, the son of Millard E. and Garna (Heaps) Riding. He graduated from American Fork High School in American Fork, UT with the class of 1955, and attended Weber State College. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ed joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955, and served in Japan where he met Shizue Jo Yahiro. They were married July 21, 1958, at Itazuke Air Base in Fukuoka, Japan. They were later sealed in the Ogden Temple on April 20, 1974. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1959, and served in the reserves until 1963.

He and Jo moved to Ogden in 1960. They lived in the same home since 1961, where they raised their family. He worked for Ogden City and retired from the Parks and Recreations department after more than 25 years of service to his community. He earned black belts in the Shotokan Karate and Tai Liu Shinate Karate styles and taught martial arts for 33 years in the Ogden area. Many of his students still refer to him as "sensei."

Ed enjoyed martial arts, hunting, fishing, puzzles, reading, stamp and coin collecting. He loved airplanes and was always looking to the skies to see them. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jo; son, David Yahiro Riding; daughter, Debra Jo Riding La Grone and her husband, Bradley; brothers, Donald J. Riding and wife, Pamela and Reed H.
