Doug Cotton, 80, of Beckville, Texas, passed away on Monday evening, March 13, 2023, in Longview, Texas. Douglas M. Cotton was born on April 5, 1942, in Lula, Louisiana, to Benjamin Loveless and Opal Webb Cotton. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War. Doug was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Youngblood Freewill Baptist Church. He married Peggy Tompkins on December 8, 1967, in Beckville. Doug began his working career at Trailmobile in Longview and later worked at Lowe's Tractor in Henderson, Texas. He was owner and operator of Cotton's in Beckville and later served as the Panola County Commissioner for Precinct 2 until his retirement. Doug was 32 nd degree Mason and member of the Beckville Masonic Lodge #922. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eleanor Lister and Willie Ruth Cotton; and brother, James Edward Cotton.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Cotton; children, Stacy Alexander and husband Todd, Teri Cotton, and Michael Douglas Cotton and wife Allison; brother, Charles Cotton; sisters, Linda Wilkerson and Judy Walker and husband Mike; grandchildren, Kristen Bogenschutz and husband Stephen, Kassidy Alexander, Micaela Cotton, Braxton Waters, and Madison, Alana, Michael, and Alessandra Westerfield; and great-grandchildren, Kallen and Colten Bogenschutz.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Carl Anderson and Bro. John Gradberg officiating. Interment will follow in Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10–11 am on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Todd Alexander, Stephen Bogenschutz, Braxton Waters, Luke Alexander, Joe Dodson, Jeff Etheredge, Eric Pellham, and Sam Tompkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Cotton Broumley, Jerry Harris, Keith Williams, Charles Bridges, Dan Ross, James Ewing, Mark Buchanan, Glenn Alexander, Bud Metcalf, and David Cole.
