Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Mullis, age 68 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Bankhead officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Mullis passed away on Sunday morning, February 24, 2008 in Carthage.
Dorothy Ann Boyd "Dot" Mullis was born on September 23, 1939 in Panola County, Texas to Robert Scott and Alma Alice Maines Boyd. She married Earl Mullis on January 28, 1962 in Biloxi, Mississippi and together they celebrated over 36 years of marriage. Mrs. Mullis worked as a bus driver for Carthage I.S.D. for several years and for the U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years before her retirement. She had lived in Panola County since 1975, moving from Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Mullis was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Melinda Mullis; and her husband, Earl Mullis who passed away on August 19, 1998.
Mrs. Mullis is survived by three daughters, Darla Townsend and husband Lonnie of the Fair Play Community, Debra Borel and husband Randy of Winnsboro, LA, and Jennifer Ritter and husband Larry of Carthage, TX; one son, Walter Scott Mullis and wife Misty of Bossier City, LA; three sisters, Betty Jean Bankhead and husband Buddy of Carthage, TX, Mary Bauer of Corpus Christi, TX, and Peggy Boyd of Brenham, TX; a very special friend, Joyce Ransom of Carthage, TX; six sisters-in-law, Opal Hobbs of Dexter, GA, Bertha Lee Clark and husband Hoyt and Florie Harleson all of Warner Robbins, GA, Evelyn Rowland and Imogene Mullis both of Chester, GA, JoAnn Lee of Dublin, GA; one brother-in-law, Charlie Floyd of Yonkers, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Jason, Ronnie, and Misty Townsend, Tiffany Davis, Brandon McDaniel, Casey and Joey Spurlock, Samantha Ingram, Chase, Chelsea, Samantha, C.W., and Christopher Mullis; six great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Christian, and Madison Townsend, Makayla Police, Katelyn and Christina McDaniel; and a special friend, Chris Allen of Addison, TX. Mrs. Mullis was anxiously awaiting the births of two new great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Mullis.
Serving as pallbearers are Lonnie Townsend, J. P. Elliott, Randy Borel, Jimmy Boyd, Brandon Monroe, and Greg Ransom.
