Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Monic, age 85, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Duane Turner and Brother David Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Monic passed away on Wednesday evening, October 8, 2008 in Longview, Texas.

Dorothy Lou Williams Monic was born on April 21, 1923 in Sour Lake, Texas to William Loren and Ruth Gainey Williams. Mrs. Monic graduated from Beaumont High School with the class of 1940. She married Douglas Gary Monic, Sr. on November 17, 1940 in Kountze, Texas. Mrs. Monic was a member of the Eastern Star. She lived most of her life in Panola County and was a longtime and faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in DeBerry. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on September 2, 2003; and two brothers, Gene Dale Williams and William Loren Williams, Jr.

Mrs. Monic is survived by one son, Gary Monic, Jr. and wife Carol of Oak Hill; two daughters, Jo Jo Wimberly and husband Fred of Carthage and Jennifer Martin of Carthage; one brother, Kenneth Ledger and wife Ann of Vidor; one sister, Billie Sterling of Beaumont; five grandchildren, Dannett Hooker and husband Jeff, Daphne Philo and husband Mark, Monica Reed and husband Johnny, Heather Baker and husband Billy, and Ryan Gary Martin; and ten great-grandchildren, Casey, Kristen, and Kelsey Reed, Kori, Kelsi, and Garrett Hooker, Kate and Karys Baker, and Maddox and Maccoy Philo. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Monic.

Serving as pallbearers are Glen Michael Ledger, Jeff Hooker, Mark Philo, Casey Reed, Don Williams, Danny Yates, Gene Parker, and Jimmy Parker. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Ryan Gary Martin.
