Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hawkins, age 76 of the Byfield Community in Panola County, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in County Line Cemetery near the Dotson Community. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Hawkins passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at her lake house in Lake Murvaul Community.

Dorothy Jean Smith Hawkins was born on May 7, 1930 in Friendswood, Texas to Sterling and Ethel Perkins Smith. Mrs. Hawkins married Vernon Esker Hawkins on July 12, 1947 in Houston, Texas. She was of the Baptist faith and had lived in Panola County since 1980, moving from Hempstead, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her husband of 59 years, Vernon Esker Hawkins of the Byfield Community; one son, Keith Hawkins of the Byfield Community; and one brother, Sterling Smith, Jr. and wife Inez of Paige, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Davis Minter, James Hyatt, Brian Clay, Rual Smith, Justin Minter, and Johnny Bell. Serving as honorary pallbearers are James Acrey, Guy Foster, and Mike Hartless.
