Dorothy Mae Hammons, 90, of Carthage, Texas passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2025 in Carthage. Dorothy Mae Wills was born March 19, 1934 in the Fair Play Community of Panola County, Texas to the late Sam Houston and Myrtie Mae Birdwell Wills. She attended Beckville schools and graduated from Beckville High School with the class of 1952. Dorothy married Travis Neal Hammons on December 20, 1952 in Arkansas and they celebrated over 61 years together until he preceded her in death on April 6, 2014. Mrs. Hammons was a longtime member of Northside Christian Center. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, and being a homemaker raising her children. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Wilbert Wills, Willis Wills, Grady Wills and Peggy Phillips.

Survivors include her children, Debbie Gibbs, Sharon Burgess and husband John, Eddie Neal Hammons, Stanley Lane Hammons and wife Betty; brother, Jack Wills and wife Sachiko; sister-in-law, Betty Wills; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive Mrs. Hammons.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 9-10 am on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Randy Burgess, Coby Hammons, Jonathan Sells, Chris Sells, Wayne Beason, Cayden Campbell, and Travis Sells.
