A memorial service for Mrs. Dorothy Witcher, of Ft. Worth, TX, formerly of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Dodson officiating. A private interment will be held at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Witcher passed away peacefully at the James L. West Presbyterian Special Care Center in Fort Worth, Texas on June 29, 2012 at the age of 92.

Dorothy May Barner Witcher was born on Nov. 27, 1919, in Homestead, PA to John R. and Ann Bevan Barner. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Youngstown, Ohio School of Nursing in 1942. After graduation, she joined the Army Air Force with the Troop Carrier Command serving in World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, she continued her career as a hospital nurse, school nurse, and county health nurse. She retired from AT&T as an occupational health nurse in 1985. She married Charles Buren Witcher in 1943. They celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 1996. Dorothy was a member of Central Baptist Church of Carthage, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 747, Beta Sigma Phi, Potpourri Club, and Book Forum. She was also a member of the Silver Strummers Ukulele Band and The Silvertones Choir, all in Carthage. Dorothy was an avid cook and loved to entertain. She believed in community service and had a passion for helping others. In 1999, Dorothy established an endowed scholarship at Panola College to support the education of nursing students. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Mrs. Witcher is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Albert Konvicka of Aledo, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Lane and Sherrie Witcher of El Campo, TX; two grandchildren, Jason Wade Konvicka and wife Karen of Richmond, VA and Megan Anne Witcher Ryan and husband Jason of Houston, TX; and two great-grandsons, Sidney Rowe Konvicka and Charles Barner Konvicka of Richmond, VA.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ray Schieffer, John Cooke, Sleepy Reynolds, Sammy Moore, Dr. Bill Smith, and Bobby Alexander.
