Doris Gray Harvey, retired teacher and beloved wife and mother, 92, of Nacogdoches, TX, passed away on Saturday morning, March 30, 2019, at her home in Nacogdoches. Doris Ruth Gray Harvey was born on Aug. 7, 1926, in the Murvaul Community of Panola County, TX to the late Leemon H. and Grace Sauls Gray. After graduating from Gary High School, she married and became a mother of two children. As a single mother, she resumed her education, entering Panola Jr. College and moving to Nacogdoches in 1963, where she entered Stephen F. Austin State University. She graduated from S.F.A. with a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. She taught the 6 th grade at Nacogdoches I.S.D. for many years. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christy Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Cletus Harvey; son, Craig Smith of Austin; step-daughter, Susan Bruning of Missouri City; and step-son, Brad Harvey of Austin.
Her legacy is her children, students, and all of the lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019, at Bethlehem Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Otto officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
