Obituary

Donald Edmond Gilbert, 84, finished his journey on this earth August 5, 2014. Don was born on September 6, 1929 in Milsap, Texas. He was the eldest of ten children born to Ernest and Katy Robinson Gilbert. He was a "retired" electrician, but continued helping out his close friends when they needed him. During his employment with Powell Electric, he created two patents. He was a dedicated fisherman and farmer. Don married Barbara Ann Ruyle on Sept. 29, 1956, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He made a big impact on just about everyone who met him because of his honesty and whimsical personality. Don had a great love of the Lord & loved to talk about the Bible. Don proved what a courageous person he was when he fought his last battles of illness with a positive attitude. He will be truly missed. Don was preceeded in death by his parents and four of his siblings.

Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Ruyle Gilbert; son, Glen Gilbert and wife Carla of Tyler, Texas; son, Michael Gilbert of Orange, Texas; daughter, Donna Dearman and husband James of Victoria, Texas; daughter, Tammy Fenton and husband Wanzer "WF" of Orange, Texas; brothers, Tommy, Walter, Paul and Johnny Gilbert; sister, Lula Howard; grandchildren, Wade Hagan, Jennifer Hagan, Sage Woods, Jade Woods, Zack Fenton, Alex Fenton; one great-grandson, Jakob Tate; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dennis Landtroop officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers are Michael Gilbert, Wade Hagan, Glen Gilbert, W.F. Fenton, Zack Fenton, and James Dearman.
