Obituary

A funeral service for Mr. Dewey "Sug" Arnold, 81, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Mr. Arnold passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 7, 2014, at his home in Carthage.

Dewey "Sug" Arnold was born on May 23, 1932, in Carthage to the late Dewey C. and Sybil Duke Arnold. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1951. Sug served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. William C. Law during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He was self-employed in private business with his dad for eight years. He then worked with the U.S. Postal Service while owning Arnold's Custom Cabinet Shop. He retired after 30 years with the postal service.

Sug leaves behind his wife of 59 years, June Arnold of Carthage; one daughter Terri Lynn Morton of Shreveport; grandchildren, Kristi Downing and husband Nathan of Rockwall, Laura Morton and Chris Gojanovich of Austin, and Patrick Morton and wife Brittney of Shreveport; great-grandchildren, Carson and Claire Downing and Addison Gojanovich; one brother, Lee Kingston Arnold and wife Sue of Plano. Several nieces, nephews, as well as a host of friends also survive Mr. Arnold.

Mr. Arnold was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was active until his illness. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, flying his Cessna 120, riding motorcycles, and sailing his boat, The Laura Lynn. Sug was a Mason for over 50 years and was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 A.F. & A.M.

The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the nurses and staff of Heart's Way Hospice and ETMC-Carthage, Dr. Wessman and Dr. Govathoti for the loving care shown to Sug and also to family and friends for the visits, cards, and especially their prayers during his illness.

Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Wall, Patrick Morton, Nathan Downing, Floyce Eason, Jr., Steve Arnold, and Dwain Brady.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Joe Hudson and Hal Palmer.
