David Earle Powell, 54, of Carthage, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 17, 2017. He was born on Oct. 16, 1962, in Longview to Earle Chadwick Powell and Mary Sistrunk Powell. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1981, and attended Panola College, S.F.A., and UT Tyler. David worked for many years for Wal-Mart as a customer service manager. He was a member of Deadwood United Methodist Church. David was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his father, Earle C. Powell; brother, Phil Powell and wife Kathy; niece, Caitlyn Powell Mercer and husband Dylan; great-aunt, Huelitt Cariker; friend, Ethan "Wayne" Matthews all of Carthage; and friend, Lawanna Sachse of Overton.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. George Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Wayne Bailey, Dylan Mercer, George Yarbrough, James Spriggs, James Chadwick, and Glen Crane.
