Obituary

David Earl Hodges, 54, of Tatum, Texas, passed away on Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at his home in Tatum. He was born on July 2, 1969, in Carthage, Texas to David Wesley and Elesa Torres Hodges. David graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1988, where he lettered in football. He attended Northwestern State University on a football scholarship. David married Shannon Michelle Decker on August 4, 1990, in Carthage. He moved to Tatum in 2007, from Carthage and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tatum. David was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He enjoyed watching and coaching softball, and formed many relationships through the years with his softball family. In his spare time, he also enjoyed working out and sharing his training knowledge with athletes at the gym. David was preceded in death by his mother, Elesa Hodges and his father-in-law, Barry Decker.

He is survived by his father, David W. Hodges; wife, Shannon Hodges; daughters, Kolebi Spikes and husband Jerin and Kasadi Bixler and husband Brandon; siblings, Sharon Martin and husband Chuck and Daniel Hodges and wife Tara; grandchildren, Jayce Bixler, Kolesyn Spikes, Everleigh Hodges and one on the way, Kohleigh Spikes; and in-laws, Mary Jane and Billy Davis. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to David's sitter, Kim Hunter and the staff and nurses of Heart's Way Hospice of Carthage for their loving care.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ryan Matlock officiating. Interment will follow in Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Hilton Poindexter, Bobby Bozeman, Clayton Smith, Rudy Morgan, Stevie Stevens, Frank Chadwick, and Layne Kovar.

Honorary pallbearers are Brannan Stevens, Kolesyn Spikes, Jayce Bixler, Blayne Hodges, Barry Decker, and Kris Lawhorn.
